Bush: Troops to Stay in Iraq for Years

*OK.. it takes quite a bit for me to put in a new entry... just because otherwise I'd be doing it almost everyday.... (there is not a lack of material when bush is the subject).. but this is his greatest moment. Check out this AP article. anyone who still supports him... please I hope you take another look... (kind of like the car co: "give us a new look")... cuz he is ruining some good things.. had enough yet? enjoy! It's funny because he's like saying "stop asking me about Iraq cuz I don't know, it's not up to me I'm done it's up to future presidents to decide not me... i'm just good at starting wars not finishing em.. sheeeeeshh.. now leave me alone". what an ass.

Bush: Troops to Stay in Iraq for Years
AP - 2 hours, 25 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Tuesday that American forces will remain in Iraq for years and it will be up to a future president to decide when to bring them all home. But defying critics and plunging polls, he declared, "I'm optimistic we'll succeed. If not, I'd pull our troops out." The president rejected calls for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, chief architect of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. "Listen, every war plan looks good on paper until you meet the enemy," Bush said, acknowledging mistakes as the United States was forced to switch tactics and change a reconstruction strategy that offered targets for insurgents.

Ha Ha Ha - This prez is ruining the country and the Repubs just sit on thier hands

Bush Port Defiance Fuels Bipartisan Anger
AP - 38 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - President Bush's marquee issue, the war on terror, is being turned against him by Democrats and rebelling members of his own party in an election-year dustup over a deal that allows an Arab company to manage major U.S. ports. People in both parties are suggesting it's another case of Bush seeming to be tone deaf to controversy — on top of government eavesdropping, Katrina recovery and Vice President Dick Cheney's hunting accident.

Bloggers note: It's amazing to me that that W is ruining this country and the Repubs just let him do as he pleases. Here they are supposed to be the party of financial disipline. Actually, it is the Democrats that do that.. NOT the repubs.. as you can now see. Once the dems get back in power, don't expect them to play nice. Not after this... too bad. The dems will do whatever it takes to fix this country, including a HUGE TAX INCREASE. note to rich people: This is WAY better than W's method, where your net worth will go down from 10-25 % year on year, once the dollar starts devaluing.. which will probably happen once bonehead is out of office.

Cindy Sheehan at State of The Union Address

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article11745.htm

What Really Happened

By Cindy Sheehan

02/01/06 "ICH" -- -- Dear Friends,

As most of you have probably heard, I was arrested before the State of the Union Address tonight.

I am speechless with fury at what happened and with grief over what we have lost in our country

There have been lies from the police and distortions by the press. (Shocker) So this is what really happened:

This afternoon at the People's State of the Union Address in DC where I was joined by Congresspersons Lynn Woolsey and John Conyers, Ann Wright, Malik Rahim and John Cavanagh, Lynn brought me a ticket to the State of the Union Address. At that time, I was wearing the shirt that said: 2245 Dead. How many more?

After the PSOTU press conference, I was having second thoughts about going to the SOTU at the Capitol. I didn't feel comfortable going. I knew George Bush would say things that would hurt me and anger me and I knew that I couldn't disrupt the address because Lynn had given me the ticket and I didn't want to be disruptive out of respect for her. I, in fact, had given the ticket to John Bruhns who is in Iraq Veterans Against the War. However, Lynn's office had already called the media and everyone knew I was going to be there so I sucked it up and went.

I got the ticket back from John, and I met one of Congresswoman Barbara Lee's staffers in the Longworth Congressional Office building and we went to the Capitol via the undergroud tunnel. I went through security once, then had to use the rest room and went through security again.

My ticket was in the 5th gallery, front row, fourth seat in. The person who in a few minutes was to arrest me, helped me to my seat.

I had just sat down and I was warm from climbing 3 flights of stairs back up from the bathroom so I unzipped my jacket. I turned to the right to take my left arm out, when the same officer saw my shirt and yelled; "Protester." He then ran over to me, hauled me out of my seat and roughly (with my hands behind my back) shoved me up the stairs. I said something like "I'm going, do you have to be so rough?" By the way, his name is Mike Weight.

The officer ran with me to the elevators yelling at everyone to move out of the way. When we got to the elevators, he cuffed me and took me outside to await a squad car. On the way out, someone behind me said, "That's Cindy Sheehan." At which point the officer who arrested me said: "Take these steps slowly." I said, "You didn't care about being careful when you were dragging me up the other steps." He said, "That's because you were protesting." Wow, I get hauled out of the People's House because I was, "Protesting."

I was never told that I couldn't wear that shirt into the Congress. I was never asked to take it off or zip my jacket back up. If I had been asked to do any of those things...I would have, and written about the suppression of my freedom of speech later. I was immediately, and roughly (I have the bruises and muscle spasms to prove it) hauled off and arrested for "unlawful conduct."

After I had my personal items inventoried and my fingers printed, a nice Sgt. came in and looked at my shirt and said, "2245, huh? I just got back from there."

I told him that my son died there. That's when the enormity of my loss hit me. I have lost my son. I have lost my First Amendment rights. I have lost the country that I love. Where did America go? I started crying in pain.

What did Casey die for? What did the 2244 other brave young Americans die for? What are tens of thousands of them over there in harm's way for still? For this? I can't even wear a shrit that has the number of troops on it that George Bush and his arrogant and ignorant policies are responsible for killing.

I wore the shirt to make a statement. The press knew I was going to be there and I thought every once in awhile they would show me and I would have the shirt on. I did not wear it to be disruptive, or I would have unzipped my jacket during George's speech. If I had any idea what happens to people who wear shirts that make the neocons uncomfortable that I would be arrested...maybe I would have, but I didn't.

There have already been many wild stories out there.

I have some lawyers looking into filing a First Amendment lawsuit against the government for what happened tonight. I will file it. It is time to take our freedoms and our country back.

I don't want to live in a country that prohibits any person, whether he/she has paid the ulitmate price for that country, from wearing, saying, writing, or telephoning any negative statements about the government. That's why I am going to take my freedoms and liberties back. That's why I am not going to let Bushco take anything else away from me...or you.

I am so appreciative of the couple of hundred of protesters who came to the jail while I was locked up to show their support....we have so much potential for good...there is so much good in so many people.

Four hours and 2 jails after I was arrested, I was let out. Again, I am so upset and sore it is hard to think straight.

Keep up the struggle...I promise you I will too.

Love and peace soon,
Cindy

This is the damage Bush is doing to our country that we will be faced with soon.

The Pain That Is Yet to Come
Published: January 30, 2006

Though we don't know the final figures, we do know that the United States set a record for foreign debt in 2005. Through November, last year's trade deficit had already exceeded the deficit posted for all of 2004, itself a record.

The trade gap is financed by foreign lenders, mainly central banks in Asia and offshore hedge funds. Ditto most of the federal budget deficit, $319 billion last year. Because America has so far been spared the worst effects of overborrowing — a sharply falling dollar and spiking interest rates — the Bush administration sees no cause for alarm, suggesting instead that foreigners will be honored to keep lending us whatever we need, on our terms, whenever we need it.

But absent policy changes to curb its borrowing, America cannot escape the consequences of its debt indefinitely. The effects may be sudden or gradual, but either way, they mean a weaker economy than would otherwise be the case.

The dollar, which theoretically should have declined under the debt load in 2005, was buoyed last year by foreigners' willingness to park their cash in higher-yielding dollar-based assets while other developed economies sputtered. Investors were also drawn into dollars because of political setbacks in Europe, like the defeat of the European Constitution. And Congress helped to prop up the dollar by offering a one-time tax break that induced many American companies to convert their foreign earnings into hundreds of billions of dollars. But now Germany and Japan are rallying, the tax break has expired for most companies, and the dollar is facing new challenges: China, for instance, recently stated its intention to invest more of the dollars it earns in other currencies.

For the past few years, the United States' economy has overcome the drag of big deficits, mainly because the housing boom let Americans borrow and spend, despite stagnating wages. But the boom appears to be moderating, a slowdown that will only worsen if America's foreign indebtedness leads to sustained downward pressure on the dollar and upward pressure on interest rates.

Deeply in debt, individual Americans can't be expected to keep borrowing and spending. And government, also deeply in the red, won't be able to help much. Yet despite an estimated budget deficit of $400 billion this year, further tax cuts still top the Republican agenda.

Pentagon Used White Phosphorous in Iraq - b/w Saddam used gas in Iraq

WHEN ARE WE AS A SUPPOSED CHRISTIAN COUNTRY GOING TO WAKE UP AND SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

So we're right and god like, and Saddam is a criminal. Anyone see any irony in this story. Kick bush out now! We dare not go on like this! So we decide who can be gassed or "phosphorused" huh? Yet when Saddam does it he's the devil. What immoral idiots we've become. They call the people we killed insurgents.. yet they never came nor left.. we invaded them!!! Sick.

BTW- As an aside, Bush's huge spending problem will cause all you wealthy people to lose your net worth when the Chinese finally decide to stop funding our deficit spending. An economist on a conservative radio was talking about this.. sky high interest coming.. causing depression/recession. He was saying how surprised he was that the Repub's were so irresponsible! He called it a ticking economic time bomb and how the Chinese will use this as a political weapon as soon as we ask them for concessions on other issues! How right he is.

DON"T BLAME THE DEM"S WHO SAID WE HAVE TO GET RID OF Bush! Dumb asses who voted for Bush! We're going to get it.. unfortunately...

--------------- Here's the story ------------------------
WASHINGTON - Pentagon officials acknowledged Tuesday that U.S. troops used white phosphorous as a weapon against insurgent strongholds during the battle of Fallujah last November. But they denied an Italian television news report that the spontaneously flammable material was used against civilians.

Lt. Col. Barry Venable, a Pentagon spokesman, said that while white phosphorous is most frequently used to mark targets or obscure a position, it was used at times in Fallujah as an incendiary weapon against enemy combatants.

"It was not used against civilians," Venable said.

The spokesman referred reporters to an article in the March-April 2005 edition of the Army's Field Artillery magazine, an official publication, in which veterans of the Fallujah fight spelled out their use of white phosphorous and other weapons. The authors used the shorthand "WP" in referring to white phosphorous.

"WP proved to be an effective and versatile munition," the authors wrote. "We used it for screening missions at two breeches and, later in the fight, as a potent psychological weapon against the insurgents in trench lines and spider holes when we could not get effects on them with HE (high explosive)" munitions.

"We fired `shake and bake' missions at the insurgents, using WP to flush them out and HE to take them out."

The authors added, in citing lessons for future urban battles, that fire-support teams should have used another type of smoke bomb for screening missions in Fallujah "and saved our WP for lethal missions."

The battle for Fallujah was the most intense and deadly fight of the war, after the fall of Baghdad in April 2003. The city, about 35 miles west of Baghdad on the Euphrates River, was a key insurgent stronghold. The authors of the "after action" report said they encountered few civilians in their area of operations.

Italian communists held a sit-in Monday in front of the U.S. Embassy in Rome to protest the reported use by American troops of white phosphorous. Italy's state-run RAI24 news television aired a documentary last week alleging the U.S. used white phosphorous shells in a "massive and indiscriminate way" against civilians during the Fallujah offensive.

The State Department, in response, initially denied that U.S. troops had used white phosphorous against enemy forces. "They were fired into the air to illuminate enemy positions at night, not at enemy fighters."

The department later said its statement had been incorrect.

"There is a great deal of misinformation feeding on itself about U.S. forces allegedly using `outlawed' weapons in Fallujah," the department said. "The facts are that U.S. forces are not using any illegal weapons in Fallujah or anywhere else in Iraq."

Venable said white phosphorous shells are a standard weapon used by field artillery units and are not banned by any international weapons convention to which the U.S. is a signatory.

White phosphorous is a colorless-to-yellow translucent wax-like substance with a pungent, garlic-like smell. The form used by the military ignites once it is exposed to oxygen, producing such heat that it bursts into a yellow flame and produces a dense white smoke. It can cause painful burn injuries to exposed human flesh.

Took a While.. but now everyone sees what a disaster Bush is! FINALLY.

I Talked to Several Repub's who voted for Bush in last election, who said they wouldn't vote for him again after the Katrina situation! Well DUHHHH!

Reagan Loyalists Say Bush Has Dropped the Torch
They cite an array of perceived betrayals of the former president's conservative legacy.

By Edwin Chen, Times Staff Writer

blogger note: HA HA HA HA HA HA... what'd you expect dummies GEESSHHHH Think would you?

When President Bush attends the ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning for a new exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, he will bask in the legacy of the most revered icon in contemporary Republican circles.

But many Reagan loyalists are rejecting Bush's claim as Reagan's political heir.

Maybe he believes it, but I don't think it's objectively true," said Bruce Bartlett, a Reagan administration domestic policy aide and author of a forthcoming book, "Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy."

Tom Delay Busted!! Finally......

Well, Well, Well... Tom Delay Indicted!

After DeLay was indicted, he used the following phrases to describe the nature of this investigation and the prosecutor: a "vengeful investigation," a "partisan fanatic" and "unabashed partisan zealot." And his Republican apologists claimed that he was victim of "a political witch hunt." Well, consider that these same Republicans spent much of the 1990s wasting federal tax dollars on Whitewatergate-Travelgate-Monicagate against President Clinton — only to find minor violations or nothing at all. The "macho" Republicans sure can dish it but they can't take it.

Ah, what a great time to be a Republican. House Majority Leader DeLay's been indicted for campaign finance conspiracy, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is under investigation for insider trading, White House advisor and chief Bush campaign manager Karl Rove is suspected in revealing the name of a CIA agent, Vice President Dick Cheney's being investigated in the World Court (in his previous role as Halliburton's CEO, for grossly overcharging African nations in the '90s) and, of course, President Bush has lied about every single justification for going to war with Iraq.

They are the party of lies, greed and sticking it to the taxpayer. From Nixon and Watergate to Reagan and Iran-Contra, 'twas ever thus.

It's true what they say, there are only two kinds of Republicans: Millionaires and fools.
